Frank Watson-Brown is a proud Wakka Wakka, Kullali, and Waanyi man with a passion and drive for First Nations cultural, spiritual, and educational sustainability. Dedicated to creating positive change for our communities, he knows that for us, culture is everything: It connects our identities, histories, and futures.
For Frank, culture is not just a part of his life; it shapes how he sees the world.
“Culture plays a big part in my whole life; it’s everything I do. It’s what I’ve been taught and how I go about my business,” Frank shares.
His strong connection to his culture has influenced his work and values. Like many of us, Frank learned essential lessons about managing money from his parents and Elders, such as saving for a rainy day and keeping a stable household. These teachings have shaped his values and reflect how our cultural roots impact our attitudes.
Staying connected to culture is essential for our overall well-being. We are rich in culture, and embracing our traditions helps build resilience, strengthens community ties, and enhances our sense of belonging. It empowers us to face modern challenges while staying grounded.
Frank points out, “If you see a stable household and income, then you’re going to follow those same values,” highlighting how family lessons shape our lives.
Frank is currently working as an Indigenous Family Liaison Officer, a role that is crucial in providing support for families in court and raising awareness about the role of the courts in family law matters.
Frank’s journey, like many of ours, has been filled with personal struggles and triumphs. His experiences have shown him the power of cultural identity in life. By staying true to himself and using his skills, he inspires others to embrace their cultural identities, reminding us that for us, culture is our everything. Honouring our traditions can enrich our lives and ensure that our culture continues to thrive.
