With the cost of living rising, here are a few tips that might help when it comes to managing your monthly and quarterly bills.
Mobile phone and internet
Consider using a comparison website, such as finder.com.au, to see if you’re getting a good deal. Sometimes, bundling your phone and internet contracts can work out cheaper.
If you’re a student, you may be able to get a discount through some providers with a valid student ID.
Gas, electricity and solar energy
If you live in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory, you can use the website Energy Made Easy to compare providers.
If you live in Victoria, you can use the site Victorian Energy Compare to compare electricity, gas and solar offers.
In Western Australia, you may be able to switch electricity retailers, due to the way the market is regulated. However, you can still compare gas providers.
Customers in the Northern Territory also have fewer options when it comes to electricity providers, with most households powered by the government-owned Jacana Energy. Most households also use electricity, instead of gas, with gas not as freely accessible in the territory.
If you’re struggling to pay your bills, you can speak to your provider about their relief services. You can also contact a free financial counsellor via the National Debt Helpline: 1800 007 007.
